The Kweyol Alphabet – part 1 (a to en)

Kwéyòl has its own alphabet. It is different from the English alphabet that you know. If you want to be able to read and write Kwéyòl well, you must learn the Kwéyòl alphabet. The Kwéyòl language has 32 sounds. Each sound is written in one particular way. Lets start by learning the first nine sounds in the Kwéyòl alphabet. Take a look at the table below. Study it carefully.

Notice how “an” and “en” are pronounced in a different way in Kwéyòl. You will soon get used to it. Also, notice that “c” is never used by itself in Kwéyòl. It is always used together with “h“.
