Nouns can be classified as common nouns or proper nouns.

Common nouns are general names of things, places, animals or people. They begin with a lowercase letter unless they are at the beginning of a sentence. Examples of common nouns are dog, lady, man, country, festival and day.

Proper nouns are names of specific things, places, animals or people. They begin with a capital letter. Examples of proper nouns are Shanice, Canada, Kimaney, Christmas and Friday.
