What is the OECS?
The Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) is an inter-governmental organization which supports regional integration in the Eastern Caribbean. The OECS promotes cooperation among member states in many ways. Goods and people can move freely among member states. The member states have a common approach to trade, healthcare, education and the development of agriculture, tourism and energy. Most of the OECS member states use the same currency, the Eastern Caribbean Dollar.
The OECS was established in 1981 when the seven founding members (or protocol members) signed the Treaty of Basseterre. Since then, four other members have joined. They are known as associated members.
The OECS has 11 member states. They are listed below. The first seven are the founding members and the last four are associate members.
