Renewable and Non-renewable Resources

Renewable Resources

Some natural resources are known as renewable resources. This means that even though we keep using them, they will not easily run out. They are replaced naturally. Some examples of renewable resources can be seen below.

Sunlight is a renewable resource because it will not run out no matter how much we use it. Plants use sunlight to grow. We can also use sunlight to make electricity.

Water is a renewable resource. It gets recycled naturally and used over and over again.

Trees are a renewable resource. We can plant trees to replace the ones we cut down.

Non-renewable Resources

Some natural resources are known as non-renewable resources. This means that if we keep using them, they will run out someday. They are not replaced naturally or they are replaced very slowly.

Crude oil is a non-renewable resource. We will run out of it if we keep using it.

Gold is a non-renewable resource. Silver, iron and other metal ores are non-renewable resources too.

Coal is a fossil fuel which takes millions of years to form. It is a non-renewable resource.
