The planets of our Solar System
There are eight planets in our solar system. The planet which is closest to the sun is Mercury, followed by Venus and then Earth. Earth is the only planet which is known to have living things such as plants and animals. The fourth planet from the sun is Mars which is also known as the red planet.
The fifth planet from the sun is Jupiter, which is the largest planet in our solar system. Next comes Saturn which is famous for its large rings which can be seen in the diagram above. Uranus is the seventh planet from the sun and Neptune is the eighth.
Pluto is no longer considered to be a planet. It is now referred to as a dwarf planet because it is quite small. Pluto is actually smaller than Earth’s moon.
