Fish

What is a fish?

A fish is a type of vertebrate. The picture below shows the skeleton of a fish. Can you see the backbone?

Fish have the following things in common:

  • They breathe with gills: Fish live in water and breathe using gills.
  • Their bodies are covered with scales: Almost all fish have scales covering their bodies.
  • They have fins: Fish use fins to help them move through the water.
  • They are cold blooded: Their body temperature depends on the temperature of their environment.
